Elvira: Mistress of the Dark Cassandra Peterson

Horror hostess Elvira, portrayed by actress Cassandra Peterson, was at the peak of her popularity when I was a kid, so I grew up watching her. I always enjoyed seeing her on the screen, whether I was watching her present horror movies or starring in her own horror/comedy, 1988's ELVIRA: MISTRESS OF THE DARK

Just in time for the film's 29th anniversary (because why wait for 30?), Cinespectral Films will be giving ELVIRA: MISTRESS OF THE DARK a collector's edition Blu-ray release that is limited to a total of just 3000 copies.

The movie was scanned from the original interpositive using a 4K scanner for this release. The collector's edition is a 3-disc set containing two Blu-rays and a PAL DVD and it will be available with three variant cover designs, each limited to 1000 units. These covers will show off the original theatrical artwork, the promotional press kit artwork, and newly created artwork by German filmmaker Andreas Marschall.

Directed by James Signorelli from a screenplay by Sam Egan, John Paragon, and Peterson herself, ELVIRA: MISTESS OF THE DARK has the following synopsis:

Elvira quits her job as a horror host after being sexually harassed by the station’s new owner and forms a plan to start her own show in the heart of Las Vegas. Upon learning that her great-aunt Morgana has passed away, Elvira travels to the town of Falwell to claim her inheritance, only to find herself stranded when her Macabre Mobile’s engine blows up. Will she become Las Vegas’ next big dance sensation? Or get burned alive at the stake?

Peterson was joined in the cast by Susan Kellerman, William Morgan Sheppard, Edie McClurg, and Kurt Fuller.

Bonus features in the collector's edition will include:

– An introduction by director James Signorelli

– A new documentary called Too Macabre — The Making of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark

– A featurette on the film’s special effects team

– Three never-before-released behind-the-scenes clips

– Seven original storyboard sequences

– Trailers

– The film’s script

– Stills gallery

– Three commentaries: a 2012 track featuring Peterson and costars Edie McClurg and John Paragon, and new commentaries with Signorelli (hosted by former Fangoria editor Tony Timpone) and with elviramistressofthedark.com webmaster Patterson Lundquist

– An illustrated 60-page booklet with never-before-seen production stills and international artwork

That all sounds very impressive to me. If you're impressed as well and would like to get your hands on one of those 3000 copies, head over to Movie2Shop.com, where the pre-order opens today. The release date is April 24, 2017.

Some artwork and a preview of the TOO MACABRE documentary can be seen below.
