Fede Alvarez, the director behind this year’s EVIL DEAD remake, is going straight to hell with his next picture.

According to Deadline, Universal Pictures has set Alvarez to helm DANTE’S INFERNO, an adaptation of the Electronic Arts game of the same name, which is based on part one of the medieval epic poem, The Divine Comedy, commonly referred to as Dante’s Inferno, by Dante Alighieri.

The protagonist, Dante Aligheri is a knight who with the help of the poet Virgil ventures into the nine rings of hell to rescue his beloved Beatrice. In the process, he becomes an unwitting pawn in an ancient war between heaven and hell.

The screenplay was penned by Jay Basu and Bruce McKenna. Eric Newman and Marc Abraham are producing with EA Entertainment vice president Patrick O’Brien.
