Rambo 5 in the works? Screenwriter Sean Hood tells us the deal!

In an interview over on FEARnet, CONAN THE BARBARIAN co-writer Sean Hood briefly mentions that he’s written the script for RAMBO: THE LAST STAND (aka RAMBO 5) for Millennium Films, based on an idea conjured by Sly Stallone himself. As there isn’t much else offered on the subject, I took it upon myself to reach out to Sean (a longtime friend of AITH) and ask him to spare whatever details he could about the project. Being a great man, he wrote back! Check it:

“I met with Mr. Stallone twice last year and he came up with a different idea for Rambo 5 – not the one previously reported. He gave me a book, an older screenplay, and about twenty pages he had written himself to to use as inspiration for the last chapter of the Rambo saga, one that is more in line with the small town thriller of First Blood (thus the echo “Rambo: Last Stand”).

“As of now, I don’t know if Mr. Stallone will do another Rambo, but Millennium films did hire me to realize his story idea in a completed screenplay. Right now, as I understand it, Mr. Stallone has his hands full with Bullet to The Head, and Expendables 2.

“My hope is that he will eventually be inspired to do one more Rambo film, one with the tone of Eastwood’s Unforgiven.”

Wow! Though the last RAMBO was, I’m sure for many of us, a very effective conclusion to the John Rambo saga, I think it’s safe to say that not many would turn down one more adventure with the man – especially if it’s in line with what Mr. Hood talks about here. FIRST BLOOD by way of UNFORGIVEN? What’s not to like?
