THE EXPENDABLES 2 is inching ever closer to being a reality; just a few days ago we got word that Jean-Claude Van Damme’s possible involvement in the flick is very real (still not 100% confirmed yet, but it’s looking good), and now we have some promo art work and a synopsis for the film, straight from the official site of production company Nu Image.
The synopsis contains a MAJOR SPOILER right off the bat, so consider yourself warned: The Expendables are back and this time it’s personal! After Tool (Mickey Rourke), the heart and soul of the Expendables, is brutally murdered on a mission, his comrades swear to avenge him. They’re not the only ones who want blood. Tool’s beautiful young and wild daughter Fiona embarks on her own revenge mission, complicating matters when she is captured and ransomed by a ruthless dictator plotting to destroy a resistance movement. Now Barney and the Expendables must risk everything to save her and humanity.
Holy shit, they’re saving humanity?! Talk about taking it to the next level…
We still don’t know for sure who will be starring in the film (although we can assume that Sly Stallone will be bringing all of the principals back, as well as Bruce Willis and hopefully Arnold), nor do we know who is directing. There’s been a lot of back and forth in regards to whether or not Stallone will direct, but he has been pretty adamant that he won’t be; indeed, it’s rather telling that Nu Image has left the “Directed by” credit blank for EXPENDABLES 2. Perhaps an announcement is forthcoming at Cannes..? We’ll let you know when we do.
