Extended editions of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy coming to DVD

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Fans of those GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO flicks (the originals, of course) are about to go apeshit, because a new special edition box set, featuring extended versions of all three flicks, is coming to DVD and Blu-ray this Thanksgiving. Would make for perfect viewing over turkey with the fam!

From the press release:

The phenomenon of the internationally celebrated works of writer Stieg Larsson takes center stage this Holiday season with the release of DRAGON TATTOO TRILOGY: EXTENDED EDITION. Clocking in at nine-hours, it is the most complete film version of Larsson’s acclaimed best-selling Millennium Trilogy of novels and the movies they inspired.

Dragon Tattoo Trilogy: Extended Edition contains more than two hours of footage not included in the theatrical versions of the Swedish films, including additional roles and an even more notable subplot featuring the character Erika Berger (played by Lena Endre), the editor at Blomkvist’s “Millennium Magazine” as well as his friend and occasional lover.

Co-produced by Sweden’s Yellow Bird production company and Denmark’s Nordisk Film, Dragon Tattoo Trilogy: Extended Edition was first seen in its extended form of nine hours on Swedish television in 2010 as part of a six-part TV mini-series entitled Millennium. In the series, each film had a three-hour running time and was divided in two parts of 90 minutes each.

Along with the additional footage, Dragon Tattoo Trilogy: Extended Edition will contain the documentary “Millennium: The Story” as a bonus feature. The 53-minute chronicle details the phenomenon of the “Millennium” trilogy and the personal history of author Stieg Larsson up until his tragic death before The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was published in 2005.

The DRAGON TATTOO TRILOGY comes out on NOVEMBER 22nd, almost exactly a month before David Fincher’s remake of the first installment.
