Fede Alvarez on why he’s recasting Rooney Mara in Girl in the Spider’s Web

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

It was just yesterday that we brought you the news that not only was Fede Alvarez (EVIL DEAD, DON'T BREATHE) confirmed as director of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO American follow-up THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB, but that the flick was in pre-production, and they were seeking to recast from the ground up.

Many people, me included, wondered why they would bother to recast the roles so iconically (is that too strong a word? Maybe) played by Daniel Craig, and especially Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander.

I mean Rooney was nominated for a f*cking Oscar for her portrayal of the girl that has a dragon tattoo, who occasionally revenge-rapes fat dudes.

Director Fede Alvarez took to Twitter to respond with his admittedly sound argument:

Nevermind. I get you, brother. It's all good. Keep doing what you're doing. I have heard the same thing about directing, and having made a film or two myself over the years, I know how true that statement can be… Casting is a major part of a director's vision.

Now we move onto conspiring who will play Lisbeth in Alvarez's new version. Again, I stick with his EVIL DEAD &  DON'T BREATHE starlet Jane Levy. Anyone who saw the phenomenal Netflix film I DON'T FEEL AT HOME IN THIS WORLD ANYMORE can attest that Jane Levy can get down an f*cking dirty when the role calls for it. And she’s hot. Just sayin'.

THE GIRL IN THE SPIDER'S WEB hits Oct. 5, 2018
