FilmDistrict acquires haunted mirror project Oculus

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

We first gave you a look into the haunted mirror project OCULUS last month, when it was announced that ABSENTIA director Mike Flanagan was embarking on the thriller, along with Intrepid Pictures. The news is good today for Mr. Flanagan, as his film has just been acquired by distributor FilmDistrict… even before shooting has begun.

OCULUS centers on a murder that left two children orphans with authorities charging the brother while his sister believed that the true culprit was a haunted antique mirror. Now completely rehabilitated and in his twenties, the brother is ready to move on but his sister is determined to prove that the haunted mirror was responsible for destroying their family.

“When we read the script for ‘Oculus’ and saw Mike’s short, we were excited about his potential to create a film that would deliver real scares to horror fans,” Peter Schlessel, CEO of FilmDistrict, said in a statement. “We look forward to working with Trevor and Marc and their team at Intrepid on the project.”

Filming on OCULUS will commence this summer. Trevor Macy and Marc D. Evans will both produce and finance the project.
