First stills from new Michael Stephenson documentary The American Scream

Horror movie documentaries have experienced a genuine up tic in recent years with NEVER SLEEP AGAIN, MORE BRAINS!, and HIS NAME WAS JASON. But what about documentaries about horror attractions?

Fantastic Fest will be giving the world premiere to just such a documentary with THE AMERICAN SCREAM. From BEST WORST MOVIE director (and TROLL 2 star) Michael Stephenson, SCREAM examines the fine art of planning, organizing, constructing and running a neighborhood haunted house. Not just any haunted house, either– an uber-haunted house. Kind of like your crazy, Christmas obsessed neighbor’s house around mid-December, only these houses are scary in a good way.

Fantastic Fest is going down September 20-27 in Austin, Texas’ Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar. To those of you not blessed enough to live near the movie going Mecca that is Austin, THE AMERICAN SCREAM will later experience its television premiere on Chiller TV this October. Check out the synopsis and two new stills from the film below.

In a small Massachusetts community, three Halloween-obsessed households transform into neighbor-terrifying supernatural wonderlands in this surprisingly touching documentary from the director of BEST WORST MOVIE.
