Fox announces a trio of awesome MGM horror titles on Blu-ray next month

08.29.2012by: Ike Oden

What do Tobe Hooper, Victor Salva, and the Chiodo Brothers all have in common? Besides their penchant for campy humor, all of these directors have films getting the Blu-ray treatment from Fox next month.

TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2, JEEPERS CREEPERS, and KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE will be receiving brand spankin’ new 1080p transfers and DTS-HD sound mixes. Best of all, they will be available for budget prices, meaning they’ll only set you back around $12 to $15 a piece (based on Amazon’s current asking price, anyway).

There doesn’t seem to be any new special features included for these releases, but extras that were available on previous DVDs are being ported over. That means the six part TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 2 documentary IT RUNS IN THE FAMILY that you double dipped and bought “The Gruesome Edition” for should remain intact.

While not widely considered classics of the genre, these films are very iconic in their own right. Horror fans should need not need any more of an incentive to go ahead and upgrade from their old DVDs when these are released September 11th. Check out the awesome new cover art below and while you’re at it, click through to the links provided above and help keep the Arrow in the Head pirate ship afloat.

Extra Tidbit: Michael Felsher's Red Shirt Pictures did the features for TCM 2 and did a great job on them, at that.

I would love to get these.

I know that MGM would be faithful to the original extras on the DVD for the Blu-ray without putting nothing new. I really hate the new cover of "Jeepers Creepers". "Killer Klowns From Outer Space" cover seems to be a different movie, the alien clowns are actually look creepy. At least, they didn't change the cover for the "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2" from the 2006 edition. I would have love an new remastered DTS 5.1 HD track but it will be DTS 2.0 HD Track instead.
