Friday the 13th heading to television with hourlong series!

Apr. 24, 2014by: Eric Walkuski

Obviously, it's not enough that Jason Voorhees is being rebooted for the big screen he'll be terrorizing the small screen as well soon enough!

Deadline reports that Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment have set a deal to produce a new hour-long dramatic series based upon the characters and settings of FRIDAY THE 13th. (And no, it's not a reboot of "Friday the 13th: The Series".)

The original film's director Sean S. Cunningham will be executive producer along with Randall Emmett & George Furla, Mark Canton of Atmosphere Entertainment MM, Steve B. Harris of Diversion3 Entertainment, and Ted Fox of Fox Entertainment.

Bill Basso and Jordu Schell - both former creature designers in the industry - are penning the script, which re-imagines Jason Voorhees in "multiple time periods," whatever that means. However, the series is contemporary, focusing on the eclectic characters of Crystal Lake who are forced to confront the return of the killer, as new secrets about his family are revealed.

More on this as it comes in

weekly series???

YAY!!! as long as they do it right..... Slasher each week?
I cannot wait for this!! multiple time periods does make sense if they are planning on incorporating the movies into the show, Jason would be multiple ages and with the potato sack on his head as would his mother be different ages too.
Exploring Camp Crystal Lake's history would be epic, there's so much new information on the camp and it's history to mine here

Ugh, Sean Cunningham

Friday the 13th as a literal interpretation series makes no sense. It cannot sustain itself with such a weak premise unless they alter the mythology. Jason is one of those characters that become less scary the more screenwriters try to give him motivational backstory. He is a Boogeymen, I don't care if he was picked on in grade school. It makes sense to flesh out a villain like Norman Bates on TV because he is a (barely) functioning human being in society not a mindless vaguely supernatural

Cunningham created the franchise but he did it out of dumb luck not out of love for the horror genre. He is the epitome of Hollywood happenstance. He is just riding the one good film he directed almost 35 years ago. I cannot blame him for this but it is disheartening to a true fan of the genre. I love the Friday the 13th series but do we really need this? Just give us a non-found footage film sequel set in a wintry Crystal Lake and I'll be happy.

if they focus on the camp's history then there would be a great deal to mine..
each movie shows a decrepit camp overrun with weeds... we know Jason's mother was the killer, we also know the events of Jason's drowning but they've never really showed the camp when it was operational and at its peak... with Jason Vorrhees..
