Friday the 13th reboot moving forward with V/H/S director David Bruckner

Apr. 15, 2014by: Eric Walkuski

A new FRIDAY THE 13th film is in the works and David Bruckner, the helmer of the "Amateur Night" segment of V/H/S, is the man being eyed to helm it, according to The Wrap.

Plot details are being kept secret; it's unclear whether or not this will have anything to do with the remake from 2009, although Platinum Dunes' Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing for Paramount.

The plan is to release the film on March 13, 2015. Less than a year away.

In addition to V/H/S, Bruckner was one of three directors on 2007's THE SIGNAL. The fact that he's worked in the found footage genre might lend some weight to the rumor that the latest FRIDAY THE 13th flick will be shot POV-style. Guess it remains to be seen.

has promise

I think the found-footage genre doesn't get the love it deserves. Chronicle, Afflicted, and Cloverfield are examples of when it can be very successful and present old ideas in a fresh and exciting way. I mean, innovation is one thing the F13th franchise could use. Worst case scenario it will be a very interesting train-wreck. Best case, a breath of fresh air in a series that could use it desperately! Couldn't be any more stupid than having Jason a pot-farmer killing those stealing his crop

make it make it

make it! everyone knows jason=money if done right (2009's set vday weekend box office records). so if they make a found footage piece of junk then itll bomb and they'll make the next one better. its not like F13 has a bulletproof resume, look at Jason X or Final Friday. I just want to see Voorhees on the big screen next march!

Ok Maybe I could see this working...

I would be ok with them using "found Footage" if its done right... Which is asking a lot... no, its really asking the near imposable... All right the more I play this out in my head the more I agree with everyone else here. The found footage rout is an unnecessary gimmick for a Friday film. I can envision reacting too this as I do many found footage films by screaming at some point during the film " DROP THE D@#M CAMARA AND RUN OR HOLD IT STILL SO I CAN SEE WHATS HAPPENING"

Please Paramount

Please, I beg you... don't make this film. Not like this. The recipe for a good Friday is simple, and found footage is not an ingredient. You can' t justify someone holding a camera while being stalked by Jason fucking Vorhees. If you make a found footage Friday, it will be the final nail in Jason's coffin. Please, don't kill our franchise like this.

Urgh,, I think I see what's coming...

I have said before they just to an entry for as little money as possible and then reap the rewards.
I honestly think they will remake the 1st movie as a found footage mystery film, Camp counselors arriving to reopen Crystal Lake then subsequently disappearing one by one. no Jason, well not till the last shot anyway.
Found footage needs to die, within the studio system it's just an excuse to make an unpolished film on the cheap and as fast as possible.

for the most part...IMO...found footage is crap

but, I really cant see it fitting F13. I want clear shots of Jason plying his trade...not flashes of him as the cameraman begins a retreat.
hope this doesn't end up being the first F13 I wont see.

Lame

The primary charm behind the Friday the 13th schlockfest franchise, is the preposterous ways in which Jason gets killed at the end of every film, and comes back to life at the beginning of every film.

Rebooting a franchise like this completely ignores that primary appeal of the franchise.
