INTRO:

It’s another new entry into the Bond franchise, and of course there must be a
new game (remember License to Kill for the Genesis?). Unfortunately for
developers, everyone is always waiting for the next Goldeneye, which has been
regarded as one of the best video games of all time. I’ve long since let that
ship sail and can take each Bond game on its own merit. And this time, I’ve
decided to go with the little innovative system that could, the Wii. From what I
understand, the other console versions are quite different, so don’t take this
as a blanket review for all systems. Suit
up as Bond and jump into another first person shooter.

GAMEPLAY:

This game plays like a Gears of War/Call of Duty/Rainbow six hybrid. Playing
as Bond, you must pop from cover to cover to eliminate bad guys. You use the Wiimote and the Nunchuck
as your combination to move around and shoot things.
The only good thing you can do is
shoot from behind cover, as the controls are the source of the big problems
with this game- the controls aren’t very good.
Reloading is brutal- you have to
shake the nunchuk and it gets old fast. Not only that, but try taking bad
guys down, which involves swinging the nunchuck and timing a button press
perfectly. You will miss this opportunity often, and you will die- often.

The big problem here is that the infrared signals are terrible and the controls
just don’t measure your movements like they should. Forget about precision
aiming and other precise movements. On top of that, the game is buggy and the
framerate is awful- it is so terrible that the game just chugs.
Don’t get me started on the AI. It’s terrible.

There are some very cool Bond-inspired moments to be found in the game though
and the cut scenes are neat too. There’s even real voice acting from the stars.
See, I’m trying hard to think of things about this game that work but there
simply are not very many. The weapons are cool and some of the level design is
great too but when things even get slightly hectic, your framerate plunges and
you feel as if you’re playing underwater. It’s really broken, and it’s strange
too because COD:World at War is much better on the Wii and both games run the
same engine.

Gameplay: 4/10

GRAPHICS:

Graphics aren’t too good here either. Bond looks like Craig and other actors
have decent licenses but the good ends there. Screenshots look nice, but the
game itself really suffers from a lot of pop-in and washed out textures that
make things look ugly. This title really looks like a Gamecube game, and
that is becoming an unfortunate reality for most Wii games these days.

Graphics: 5.5/10

AUDIO:

Sound is the best part of Quantum of Solace by a ongshot. Voice acting is
great and the soundtrack sports a lot of great orchestral scores that suits
the game quite well. The only
thing that isn’t awesome are the generic sound effects used for weaponry and
explosions and the like.

Audio: 7/10

FINAL VERDICT:

Like the movie, I thought this game was a big disappointment. Unlike the
movie (which is still a good movie, even if it is disappointing), this game
is quite bad and borders on being unplayable. This one just feels broken and
even if it was smooth as butter, it would likely only be for fans of Bond.
Until the next movie-tie in game, Goldeneye remains the king.

Final Score:
5//10
