Gary Ross’ Hunger Games casts yet another unknown for the role of ‘Avox Girl’

Is this HUNGER GAMES casting ever going to stop? I’m pretty sure this thing has broken a record on most casting updates… probably about ten articles ago! It’s just getting ridiculous now. If my calculations are correct though the casting for this thing should be winding down, I mean at this rate THE HUNGER GAMES is going to be introducing a new character every five seconds!

Enough of my rambling though, you guys want to know who is the latest to join the Gary Ross film, right? Right. Well according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog Lionsgate have gone and cast Amber Chaney as the ‘Avox Girl,’ whatever that means. Apparently ‘an Avox is someone who has been punished for rebelling against the Capitol. Their tongues are cut out, which forces them to be unable to speak. In Hunger Games, Katniss recognizes an Avox from when she was hunting with best friend Gale in the woods outside of District 12.’ Well that works.

THE HUNGER GAMES takes place every year in the ruins of what was once North America, as the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Chaney (above) joins the already robust cast which includes Jennifer Lawrence (below), Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Paula Malcolmson, Willow Shields, Wes Bentley, lenny Kravitz, Toby Jones, Latarsha Rose, Brooke Bundy, Alexander Ludwig, Isabelle Fuhrman, Sam Ly, Leigha Hancock, Samuel Tan, Mackenzie Lintz, Imanol Yepez-Frias, Annie Thurman, Leven Rambin, Jack Quaid, Ian Nelson, Kalia Prescott, Dayo Okeniyi, Amandla Stenberg, Ethan Jamieson, Tara Macken, Ashton Moio, Kara Petersen, Chris Mark and Jacqueline Emerson. Phew…

THE HUNGER GAMES is filming now with a March 23, 2012 release date already pegged. Mark it people, this thing should be something pretty big.
