Get spooked by the Slenderman in this Entity trailer

Dec. 21, 2012by: Ike Oden

It's the Friday before Christmas break and news is slow. On the bright side, it affords us time to highlight little indie gems like ENTITY.

Not to be confused with the Barbara Hershey poltergeist rape movie, ENTITY is a film centering on the internet generated monster known as The Slenderman. The wild popularity of the public domain character has made it prime fodder for a variety of indie filmmakers. While short films like the MARBLE HORNETS series have utilized Slenderman to chilling effect, ENTITY seems to mark his feature debut.

Sure, the acting is a little on the rough side and the film's single-location setting reeks of indie, but directors Christopher and Jeremy Jadallah and screenwriter Courtney Hagans seem to have a flair for generating chills. This makes ENTITY a film to watch for when it hits theaters July 26th. Check out the trailer below.

Extra Tidbit: Any other Schmoes hip to the Slenderman's groove?

Slenderman? His 15 minutes of fame are up. Do people care anymore? Let alone make a feature based on him. The Tall Man came out at the right time, where the fad was at its highest point. This is too little too late and seems to be jumping on a bandwagon whose wheels stopped rolling.

Public Domain?

I find this interesting, because I was under the impression that Slender Man was not in the public domain. My understanding is that he was created by Victor Surge on the somethingawful.com forums and that a third party has control of adaptation rights. I only think this because I was approached about doing a Slender Man movie, but it proved too difficult to sort the rights out. There's a lot of gray concerning this character. That being said this looks decent for a low budget flick, but I don't

I'd rather see a movie about the folk lore behind the monster and the child snatching aspect. Who knows, though. Could be good.

I'm a moderately big Slenderman fan and this movie looks like it might deliver. Marble Hornets continues to be pretty engrossing even after all this time. I feel like Slenderman is the only big-time urban legend like the mothman, the Jersey Devil, the Chupacabra etc. that our generation has. I'm pretty excited to find out what the film world does with it.
