12.12.2012by: Jake Dee

Who the hell needs a setup...

Here it is friends, the official trailer for Guillermo del Toro's mega-monster-movie PACIFIC RIM! Crack that shite open and tell us what you think!

Starring Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman and Rinko Kikuchi (below) - PACIFIC RIM opens up:

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, and a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

PACIFIC RIM shakes up July 12th.

I am a fan of Del Toro and at least I am man enough to admit that this looks terrible.
Seems to me people are afraid to bad mouth this because Del Toro directed it. Almost every director makes a flop.
Fans will crushed when they actually see this.
I rather Del Toro put his directing skills in "At the Mountains of Madness".

I have to disagree with the bat on this one. as most of Del Toro's films require some level of thought and aren't mindless entertainment, it is nice to see this man just cut loose. I am man enough to admit I don't mind some mindless entertainment on occasion to just unplug and enjoy the ride. It's ok to be entertained without being educated.

Pacific Rim should be even better than Robot Jox or Crash and Burn. LOL. I agree with both Meat Bat and SubForce. The trailer looks terrible. However, Del Toro is Del Toro, and he created something good most likely.

I like Pacific Rim's metaphorical message. We Americans are overwhelmed by giant problems right now. We do feel that we are conquered by monsters that cannot be slain. However, the world might be underestimating our ability to adapt and survive and to use our giant

However, the world might be underestimating our ability to adapt and survive and to use our giant techno-industrial complex to do so.
