Ghostbusters 3 in "suspended animation," Bill Murray will NEVER do it!

02.28.2012by: Jake Dee

Best news I've heard in a good while...

It seems no matter what they dangle in front of Bill Murray - and by they I of course refer to Ivan Reitman, Dan Aykroyd and Columbia - Peter Venkman ain't strapping the proton pack to his back anytime soon. In fact, not now...NOT EVER! Personally, greedily, I love the decision for reasons expressed many times here at AITH.

Here's what Aykroyd recently told The Telegraph about GHOSTBUSTERS 3:

"At this point it's in suspended animation. The studio, the director Ivan Reitman and Harold Ramis feel there must be a way to do it, but Bill Murray will not do the movie.

He doesn't want to be involved. He's got six kids, houses all over America. He golfs in these tournaments where they pay him to turn up and have a laugh. He's into this life and living it. I know we'd have a lot of fun [but] I can't be mad at him. He's a friend first, a colleague second. We have a deep personal relationship that transcends business and he doesn't want to know."

About the possibility of cheating with some lame Murray CG and voice-work:

“We’re not going to do a movie that exploits the franchise. The script has to be perfect. I’m the cheerleader, but I’m only one voice in the matter. It’s a surety that Bill Murray will not do the movie, however there is still interest from the studio.”

Let's open it up...a debate it seems we've been having for the last ten f*cking years. GB3 is just a sad cash grab, Murray knows it, we all know...the principals ought to just move on. Sounds like Aykroyd is slowly doing so:

"I don't need fame any more. People are less interested in me in terms of celebrity. I'm happy to see a new generation being the media focus. I'm happy my day is done. It's over."

The legacy lives on!

i've been riding the red bandwagon ever since i heard about GB3. we don't need it, and we don't want it. maybe Dan Akroyd should try and make Coneheads 2, or how about The Great Outdoors 2? (yeah that was sarcasm, hopefully he doesn't read this and think "CGI John Candy!")

Ghostbusters 3 = the video game

Anyone whos play it will agree, it features the whole damn cast (Murray included), has a script written by Ramis and Ackroyd and is a blast to play. Hell my ps3 copy even came with a bluray of the orignal, i dont need a damn movie, espcially when its just a cash grab.

Aykroyd wants this too much. I think at this point he wants GB3 to happen just so he can say "see, I did it! It wasn't just a fantasy!" But that's not justification enough.
