Well, if this is indeed something that is happening - then you might as well buy me a ticket and a new pair of boxer shorts, because I'm already sold on this bizarre new epic.
According to AintItCoolNews, J.J. Abrams, co-creator of ALIAS and LOST, is working on some kind of BLAIR WITCH meets GODZILLA mash-up called CLOVERFIELD (hate the title, but donít understand it yet either).
Hereís what Moriarty over there at AICN has to say regarding this wild sounding project: ď...what makes this different than any other giant monster movie? Well, as I understand it, most of the film is going to be shot using home video cameras, as if from the point of view of real people who are experiencing an attack on New York. Itís designed as a fairly small picture, all things considered, and right now, theyíre working to make sure the script is going to deliver some wild thrills (like an earthquake that levels Manhattan or an oil tanker flipping over by the Statue of Liberty), but that itís not suddenly going to turn into a giant $150 million movie. Itís a tricky balance, and if they pull off everything theyíre trying to do, CLOVERFIELD could be something really groovy. Not a man in suit in sight.Ē
How freakiní cool is that? Sure, Abrams could blow millions of bucks on another GODZILLA rehash, but taking this low-budgetish approach (although Iím sure itíll still cost a pretty penny), is definitely unique for the genre - and a great way to make the flick more realistic, and therefor more frightening.
What baffles me is this shocker, also from AICN: "weíre going to see a trailer for it very soon thatís been designed and shot even as we speak. Iím not sure if itís going to be attached to TRANSFORMERS or if weíll see it later in the summer, but itís definitely coming soon. And the end of it should feature one of those iconic images that makes people talk about a trailer for months."
How in the hell Abrams and co. managed to keep this thing a secret for so long, I have no idea - especially in this day and age, when itís our job to sniff out films that dare to be such things as ďsecretiveĒ and ďmysterious.Ē Itís the internet age, you bastards, weíre supposed to have everything spoiled for us!! (actually kidding, I love that itís been under wraps.) Has anyone else heard anything about this, my favorite new movie? Don't hesitate to share, ya greedy bastards!
It's doubtful anything JJ directs will ever top this masterful moment. Bravo!
