Gremlins is being rebooted?

01.17.2013by: Ike Oden

Stop me if you've heard this one-- there's a rumor going around that maybe, just maybe, GREMLINS is on the chopping block for a reboot. Before you get excited and/or pissed, take this one with a grain of salt-- it's from the same folks who reported Zach Snyder's STAR WARS/SEVEN SAMURAI mash-up earlier this week. Still, they've been right in the past, so we should probably give them the benefit of the doubt.

According to the article, Warner Bros is in negotiations with Amblin Entertainment to reboot the franchise. The only catch? Convincing Spielberg to actually sign on to it. The producer has always been a holdout on remakes like this, but sources say things just might come together this time around.

The question is-- how do you guys feel about another GREMLINS? As much as I love the sequel, a return to the first film's black comedy carnage would be more than welcome. Then again, I have a hard time imagining another remake/sequel can really improve on the previous films. Though I'd certainly be down if Joe Dante and the original cast returned. Anyway, I could prattle on for days about a proposed GREMLINS 3, so why not talkback with your thoughts below instead?

Extra Tidbit: You knew that Phoebe Cates pic was coming. Don't act all surprised.

Gremlins reboot

this franchise is getting way too old for an official part three, they figure correctly they'd 1) need to retell the Gremlins "origin" story again 2) use CGI for the Gremlins and Mogwai 3) i'm sure SOME of the original cast would make cameos but in the event they couldnt get all of the cast back, it's easier to do a reboot than an official sequel....
On a proposed CGI Gremlin (because Hollywood probably feels that "puppets" are so 80s - cant say that I blame them one bit) that is the current

On a proposed CGI Gremlin (because Hollywood probably feels that "puppets" are so 80s - cant say that I blame them one bit) that is the current trend... use and overuse CGI for everything, just get used to it.... and wait for some photos or a trailer before you flame out this project's use of CGI.. puppets are out, CGI in... Deal with it.
