Guillermo del Toro has a role for Ron Perlman in At the Mountains of Madness

Less than 24 hours ago we told you about the latest Guillermo del Toro had to say regarding the long-awaited AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS. Actually we've been keeping you in the loop with this little diddy for a while now, bringing you every bit of news when we hear it. So why would that change today?

You see the guys over at MTV recently had a chance to chat it up with del Toro about his latest novel THE FALL and low and behold... AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS popped up. So what did del Toro have to say regarding the project this time? Check it:

"All I can tell you is if Ron Perlman is free, he will be in. I wrote a part for him. He read it and if everything falls in place, Ron Perlman has a role in it written specifically for him."

Why am I not surprised? Hell unless Perlman's "Sons of Anarachy" schedule conflicts with this one I think it's a safe bet to say he'd be down for AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS. An epic genre flick like this from del Toro and James Cameron... He'd be crazy not to sign on! Del Toro even divulged on what character Perlman would be playing:

"Ron plays Larson, the sort of dog guy, the guy that cares for the dogs and the sled the part of the expedition that is dog sleds. It's a fantastic character. I really love him. He's sort of a pragmatic guy, doesn't care about science or the mythology or the cosmology. He just is a hard-boiled Nordic man, and it is written specifically for him."

Sounds like it's right down Perlman's alley. Hell if any director out there knows Ron Perlman to a "T" it would be del Toro and he wrote the role specifically for the guy so... This one seems like a no-brainer!

But that's not all the del Toro news we have for you today... Oh no! The filmmaker also made a stop at Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" to talk shop about his new novel THE FALL and he couldn't help but start talking about monsters... Oh Guillermo... Be sure to scroll down below to check out videos from both interviews!

The story is written in first-person perspective by the geologist William Dyer, a professor from Miskatonic University. He writes to disclose hitherto unknown and closely kept secrets in the hope that he can deter a planned and much publicized scientific expedition to Antarctica. On a previous expedition there, a party of scholars from Miskatonic University, led by Dyer, discovered fantastic and horrific ruins and a dangerous secret beyond a range of mountains taller than the Himalayas.

So there you have it folks... Another little AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS update to tide us over until this thing finally starts filming. As always whenever we hear some new rumblings regarding the project we'll be sure to pass the word along to all of you!

Selma Blair (above) also worked with both Perlman and del Toro on the two HELLBOY films

Extra Tidbit: Although the duo are probably best known for the HELLBOY films, Perlman and del Toro also worked together on BLADE 2.
