HELLBOY 3 is officially never going to be made. Last month, it looked like there might be hope for the project, as HELLBOY and HELLBOY II director Guillermo Del Toro took a poll on his Twitter account asking if fans would be interested in seeing the sequel, which Del Toro, Hellboy himself Ron Perlman, and Hellboy comic book creator Mike Mignola had all previously said would probably never happen. The response to the poll was so overwhelmingly positive that Del Toro said he would set up a meeting with Perlman and Mignola to discuss the possibility.

Well, the three men had their meeting, and the outcome is not the one fans were hoping for. Ideally, Del Toro would have come out of that meeting enthusiastically announcing that they were going full steam ahead on trying to get HELLBOY 3 into production. Instead, Del Toro has reported that it's "100% the sequel will not happen. And that is to be the final thing about it."

Del Toro's idea for HELLBOY 3 was

to have Hellboy finally come to terms with the fact that his destiny, his inevitable destiny, is to become the beast of the Apocalypse, and having him and Liz face that part of his nature, and he has to do it, in order to be able to ironically vanquish the foe that he has to face in the 3rd film. He has to become the beast of the Apocalypse to be able to defend humanity, but at the same time he becomes a much darker being."

Now that's definitely never going to happen, and HELLBOY will remain a two film franchise.
