Gwyneth Paltrow set to join star-filled viral thriller Contagion

Last week, Jake told you about a new Steven Soderbergh project in the works about the outbreak of a deadly virus. The flick had already lined up an A-list cast, including Matt Damon, Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Marion Cotillard. Well now, even before the flick is officially a “go”, it has added another (former) A-lister: Gwenyth Paltrow.

Paltrow has never headlined a movie I cared about (okay, except for SE7EN), so this is a big step for her. I just hope someone tells her that I’ll be watching closely… As for the CONTAGION itself, I’m always down for a deadly epidemic. I just hope that this will be Soderbergh in TRAFFIC mode and not end up being one of his boring, esoteric indies. (Has anyone on the planet seen CHE?)

Written by Scott Z. Burns, CONTAGION carries $60 million budget and is close to snagging a studio. Seems as though this thing is just about ready to roll – and with this cast, why the hell not? It’s going to be the OCEAN’S ELEVEN of viral infection movies!
