Halloween 2018 will be a sequel not a remake

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

The news from the new HALLOWEEN film directed by David Gordon Green and co-written by Green & Danny McBride keeps rolling in. This is, of course, a more than welcome thing, and we will, of course, keep on top of any and all new news and throw it back at you guys asap.

Case in point, Kenny Powers himself, Danny McBride was recently out talking about VICE PRINCIPALS season 1 with CinemaBlend and they brought up the subject of HALLOWEEN. Thankfully McBride seemed happy to share a few new choice bits with the world regarding whether his new HALLOWEEN would be a remake.

Danny McBride said:

You know, it's not a remake. It's actually, it's gonna continue the story of Michael Myers in a really grounded way. And for our mythology, we're focusing mainly in the first two movies and what that sets up and then where the story can go from there.

Boom. Nice. So there you have it. Unlike Rob Zombie's 2007 take on the Carpenter classic, Green & McBride's take will follow the mythology established by the first two films.

McBride continued:

Green and I are definitely going to [do] a straight-up horror. Halloween has always been one of my favorite movies of all time. There's a simplicity and an efficiency to that first one that I think allows the movies just to be scary as hell. And so Green and I, our approach is to get back to that.

Scary. As. Hell. I can dig that, Green & McBride! All that aside though, being that HALLOWEEN 2018 will basically be a straight sequel to HALLOWEEN II – does that mean we will be seeing the return of Laurie Strode?

We will let you know as soon as we find out.
