Halloween director wants to reboot Ghoulies & Critters next?

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

This weekend we will finally see the release of Blumhouse's direct sequel to John Carpenter's HALLOWEEN. The new movie is directed by David Gordon Green from a screenplay he co-wrote along with Danny McBride, and today we have word via a Reddit AMA the filmmakers just held that they have some fun ideas about which horror film(s) they would like to tackle next.

David Gordon Green:

I’d like to make a little Critters/Ghoulies movies, and I’ll get to work on Jody [Hill] right away.

In a fun little side note, Danny McBride then chimed in:

When I was a boy I asked my parents for Goonies for Christmas and they gave me a copy of Ghoulies, never gotten over it.

Haha. Something tells me this is more of a joke than Green really saying that he wants to tackle CRITTERS and/or GHOULIES with all his might, but all the same, who am I to say? Hell, CRITTERS and GHOULIES might be Green's DIE HARD and BACK TO THE FUTURE PART II (my absolute favorite films). Hell, the man might even be hard at work on one – or both – as we speak. I guess we'll see… How bad would YOU like to see David Gordon Green tackle a CRITTERS and/or GHOULIES reboot in the near future? Let us know below!

Until then here's the synopsis for CRITTERS:

When strange fuzzy creatures from outer space arrive on a farm, the Brown family — Jay (Billy Green Bush), Helen (Dee Wallace-Stone), their daughter, April (Nadine Van Der Velde), and their son, Brad (Scott Grimes) — must fend off the malevolent little aliens. Two bounty hunters with superhuman abilities follow the aggressive beasts from beyond, but the warriors aren't terribly effective, leaving the Brown family to battle the fur balls and rescue April from their clutches all by themselves.

And here's the synopsis for GHOULIES:

As a child, Jonathan (Peter Liapis) was almost killed by his father, Malcolm (Michael Des Barres), during a satanic ritual. After being saved and raised by Wolfgang (Jack Nance), who has kept him unaware of his background, Jonathan inherits Malcolm's house and moves in with girlfriend Rebecca (Lisa Pelikan). During a party, he jokingly performs a ceremony described in one of his father's books on black magic, not realizing he has unleashed small, demonic creatures known as "Ghoulies."

You can snag copies of both flicks on Blu-ray HERE and HERE and then remember that David Gordon Green's HALLOWEEN hits theaters this Friday!
