HBO’s Westworld promo teases robot mayhem

Last night during the season (series?) finale of True Detective Season Two, HBO let loose a tantalizing tease of their upcoming sci-fi/western Westworld, which is of course based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 film of the same name. Plenty of glossy, creepy and intriguing images can be found throughout the mere 30 second promo, so take your time with it below.

HBO has described the show as “a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin.” If it follows the same plot as Crichton’s film, it will focus on a robot malfunction that creates havoc and terror for unsuspecting vacationers at a futuristic, adult-themed amusement park.

J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot produced Westworld, while Jonathan Nolan and his wife Lisa Joy Nolan wrote the series; Nolan directed.

Westworld has a killer cast, including Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, James Marsden, Evan Rachel Wood, Jeffrey Wright, Ben Barnes and Thandie Newton. It premieres in 2016.
