Hell will still rise

Feb. 7, 2008by: Ammon Gilbert

Last December we hear rumblings that the new HELLRAISER remake would be hitting the screen come this September. Then word on the street was that Dimension Films was going to pull the project entirely, due to the writer's strike and whatnot - and fans everywhere rejoiced. Well folks, it's time to get your panties in a bunch, because it looks like HELLRAISER is going to make it to the big screen after all!

While the September date's out, it won't be that much longer, as Dimension is planning on releasing CLIVE BARKER PRESENTS: HELLRAISER January 9th, 2009!

Great. A flippin' January release. Most times, January is seen as a dump month, but with the success of HOSTEL and this year's RAMBO, I'm thinking this trend may be changing, so it's not entirely imperative that releasing HELLRAISER in January is a bad sign... but it's definitely not as great as a release month for a movie like this as, say, October, or even early spring... so I guess we'll wait and see.

Written and directed by INSIDE duo Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, the film will be based off the Clive Barker novel 'The Hellbound Heart,' and not necessarily Barker's film version... actually, I think that's just a way for Dimension to try and sell you that it's NOT a remake, which it totally is.

Now the big question remains: will they be bringing back Pinhead, and if so, who's gonna play him??? Stick around as we wait to find out, in the mean time, mark your calendars for the new HELLRAISER, in theaters everywhere January 9th, 2009!

my.my...

if this gets a pg-13 then we truly are alone in the universe...
I will only see this if Mr.Barker has a hand in it, not just his "approval", and looking at the credits on IMDB there seems to be a strong force behind it production wise, but that can always change, right...Wolfman? Apparently l'intrieur is bloody as hell and a good story as well, so we shall see.

meh

If Barker's behind it and it is truly based on the Hellbound Heart, it might not actually be too bad. As long as they don't go the PG13 route, please God (or Satan) don't let them go the PG13 route, then I can at least rest a tiny bit at night...

oh no...

this will not end well...
surely they'll dumb it down and PG-13 it for the new teen market that makes so much money... which is near sacrilege to horror fans...
but i think if the [link] stays more in line with The Hellbound Heart, it might not be too bad. and, in fact, it would take out the need for Doug Bradley returning because the lead cenobite wasn't even "Pinhead." it was a feminine, sexless creature with not pins but the grid tattooed on her head...
and clive barker has given this

and clive barker has given this his full support, so, uh, maybe this won't completely suck... but probably.
