The slasher film is a cornerstone of our beloved genre. Along with supernatural shite and the occasional sci-fi flick, slasher films are what makes horror. At least they're my favorite part of the genre. So when word breaks over at Fangoria about a new documentary heading our way about the world of slasher films, well you can bet we're going to take notice!

The documentary, called SLICE AND DICE: THE SLASHER FILM FOREVER, is coming our way from Calum Waddell and Naomi Holwill of High Rising Productions. What started as a featurette set up for an Arrow Video slasher flick, SLICE AND DICE quickly turned into something of it's own. Scope out a bit of what Waddell had to say to Fangoria:

Naomi and I actually began this as a DVD supplement for Arrowin fact, shes as enthusiastic toward slasher flicks as I am! We originally hoped to attach it, as a little, lighthearted 25-minute thing, to one of their upcoming slasher-movie releases such as THE FUNHOUSE, but it slowly became its own thing, and we decided to stay with it and turn it into a full-length documentary. It was quite an imposing thing to do, because Im all too aware of the absolutely excellent GOING TO PIECES documentary which my friend Rachel Belfosky produced five years ago. I adore that!So this is a totally different approach to the subject matter, with interviewees who are a little cultier than usual and generally not as ubiquitous on genre docus.

For the full interview, and a look at a badass NSFW trailer for the documentary, head right over HERE.

Waddell adds that SLICE AND DICE is set up a tad different than most genre documentaries: It is quite irreverant, satiric and a whole lot of fun. It is split into sections, so we have one on How to survive a slasher film, one on what makes for a great slasher villain, one on the genesis of the form, one on the Final Girls and one on why the form endures with endless remakes and rehashes."

So what do you guys think? Does SLICE AND DICE sound like something you might be interested in? Of course it does! Unfortunately there's no word on when this little gem might be ready for release but you can bet we'll let you know as soon as we hear more! In the meantime don't forget to check out the NSFW trailer for the documentary over at Fangoria!
