I Am Prequel

Last Updated on July 27, 2021

Remember way back at the beginning of the year.. when I AM LEGEND went and made millions of dollars and we were hearing rumblings about a potential sequel?

Well this past weekend ShockTillYouDrop caught up with LEGEND director Francis Lawrence at Comic Con and asked him what’s going on with a new LEGEND movie. According to Lawrence, another LEGEND movie IS in the works… but not a sequel. Apparently they’re working on a prequel to the Richard Matheson adaptation:

“Yes, yes, absolutely, we’re actually trying to crack that. We’re trying to figure out some ideas for it, but yes, it would be a prequel.”

And according to Lawrence, Will Smith is all for returning as Robert Neville. Interesting. Unfortunately this would probably mean no Alice Braga (below), but I AM LEGEND was always a one man show anyway. Would the prequel still star only Smith in an empty New York? Well Lawrence touched upon the time frame it would take place in:

“In the prequel, it’s slightly different because it’s earlier. We were three years later so we did a lot of research into the way nature would have sort of overtaken the city, with the cracks in the streets and the weeds, so if it’s just back earlier, it’ll be slightly different so the approach will be different. We’re not positive of the time of the year, because if you go in winter, you can do some entirely different kinds of things.”

So it looks like this potential prequel would center more on the time directly after the virus hit… sounds good to me. While I AM LEGEND wasn’t anything magnificent, it was decent enough. If only to see New York deserted or to see Will Smith do the amazing acting thing he does, I AM LEGEND was worth it… plus it made a ton of money. Go ahead and head on over to STYD for more info.
