IFC Midnight bringing Aussie horror The Babadook to the U.S.

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Fresh off of its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, the Aussie horror THE BABADOOK has landed a U.S. distribution deal and will be haunting VOD and theaters later this year, according to Variety.

Earlier this month we brought you a creepy trailer and spooky poster for Jennifer Kent's THE BABADOOK, which stars Essie Davis, Noah Wiseman, Daniel Henshall, Hayley McElhinney, Barbara West and Ben Winspear and tells the story of ….

…Six years after the death of her husband, Amelia struggles to discipline her “out-of-control” six-year-old Samuel – a son she finds difficult to love. Samuel’s dreams are plagued by a monster he believes is coming to kill them both. When a disturbing storybook called “The Babadook” turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is the creature he’s been dreaming about. And when Amelia begins to see glimpses of the creature herself, it slowly dawns on her that the thing Samuel has been warning her about may well be real.

Now Variety is reporting that IFC Midnight has acquired U.S. and Latin American rights to THE BABADOOK following its world premiere in the midnight section at Sundance.

We can't wait to check this one out as the buzz out of Sundance was extremely positive. Are you ready to face THE BABADOOK?
