IFC Midnight picks up the North American rights to Tara Subkoff’s #Horror

Last Updated on July 22, 2021

We haven’t heard a whole lot about actress/clothing designer Tara Subkoff’s directorial debut #HORROR since it finished filming early last year, but the film has recently started to make its way out into the world. It made its debut at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and now IFC Midnight has acquired the rights to distribute the film in North America. There’s no word yet on when the company intends to release it, but at least it has found a home.

In addition to directing, Subkoff also wrote and produced #HORROR, which is said to be inspired by true events. The story centers on

a group of 12-year-old girls whose obsession with a social media game turns a cyberbullying incident into a chaotic situation. “#Horror” centers on the increasingly cruel and dog-eat-dog online world where popularity can be achieved at the cost of human lives.

Chloe Sevigny, Timothy Hutton, Balthazar Getty, Natasha Lyonne, Taryn Manning, Stella Schnabel, Lydia Hearst, and Annabelle Dexter-Jones star.

Depending on how it’s handled, a movie about 12-year-olds terrorizing social media could be good or it could be terribly corny, but I’m intrigued, especially by the cast. I’ll be giving #HORROR a viewing whenever IFC Midnight makes it available.
