Independence Day: Resurgence trailer gears up for war

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

With the release date of INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE just over six months away, a trailer has arrived online to show us some of the imagery Roland Emmerich has in store for us in the sequel to his 1996 blockbuster. For me, there's nothing here that matches the awe-inspiring destruction the first INDEPENDENCE DAY was marketed on, but it does look like this could be quite thrilling and entertaining. Including audio of the famous speech delivered by Bill Pullman's President Thomas Whitmore was a great touch.

RESURGENCE's synopsis:

We always knew they were coming back.  After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale.  Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet.  But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force.  Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

The film stars Pullman, Jeff Goldblum, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Liam Hemsworth, Joey King, Maika Monroe, DeObia Oparei, Jessie Usher, Sela Ward, and William Fichtner.

INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE is set to reach theatres on June 24, 2016, just one day shy of the twentieth anniversary of its predecessor's premiere.

If you want to know what has happened in the INDEPENDENCE DAY universe between the events of the two films, the website Warof1996.com has been created to help get you up to speed.
