Inside being remade by team behind [Rec] and Kidnapped

This is an unexpected Halloween trick. Or treat, depending on your point of view. Screen Daily reports the French horror spectacular INSIDE is being remade - but not in Hollywood. Instead, a rather impressive Spanish coterie will be leading the charge. [REC] writers Jaume Balagueró and Manu Diez, director Miguel Ángel Vivas - who helmed the disturbing, accomplished KIDNAPPED - and producers Adrián Guerra and Núria Valls of Nostromo Pictures (BURIED) are all collaborating on the remake, which is aiming for a February 2016 production start.

As with the 2007 film, from directors Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, this version of INSIDE follows...

a recently widowed mother-to-be living in an isolated new home who receives a most unwelcome visitor: a predatory woman who will stop at nothing to snatch her unborn child. Trapped and disorientated, the young mother must unleash all her reserves of strength to protect her baby and survive the night.

Embankment Films will launch sales on the project at the upcoming AFM. Embankment's Tim Haslam said: "Jaume had this great idea for the remake and, with Manu, they’ve reimagined the original film as a very classy and tense thriller. With two great female characters fighting to be a mother, Miguel Ángel brings his distinct vision, setting up the film as a tense, sustained set piece that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats, for sure.”

As with so many remakes, this one seems largely unnecessary, predominantly because the original film is so good and so recent, but it cannot be denied this is a pretty solid group of filmmakers at play. At the very least, I'm curious to see what they come up with - even if it is, at the end of the day, quite unnecessary.
