The Arrow interviews
Sarah-Jane Redmond

Some of you might know Sarah-Jane Redmond from the TV show Millennium (never watched it myself, always been an X-Files guy). She played Lucy Butler on that show. If not, then you'll get to know her as the S&M freak Gwen in the upcoming "Hellraiser: Hellseeker". Yes, "Hellraiser: Hellseeker" is upon us. It stars Dean Winters (Trevor-pictured below with Sara), the returning Ashley Lawrence (Kirsty), Doug Bradley (Pinhead) and the surprise comeback of "Hellbound: Hellraiser 2" star Imogen Boorman (Tiffany). Arrow got a few words going with Sarah aka Gwen and this is how it turned out.

1- What's your favorite scary movie?

Hellraiser one, of course.

2- How did you get into acting? Did you fall into it by accident or did you always have the intention of doing it?

I trained in dance for ten years, then began my own theatre company called The Holy Barbarian's – Holy in our search for truth and self, Barbarian in our rejection of so-called civilized standards of success, morality, and neurosis. An agent that came to see one of my plays signed me on for film and television. After being voted the internet's number one villain (Lucy Butler aka the Devil, in Millennium) my career took off.

3- You play Gwen in the upcoming Hellraiser: Hellseeker. Tell us a bit about your character. What kind of research did you do for the part?

Gwen likes it rough… I viewed many dominatrix sessions at a local dungeon…

4- Any funny set stories that you can share with us?

When I auditioned for the part, I used a photograph out of Stanton's illustrated book 'For the man who knows his place' as my headshot. It's a photo of a man on his hands and knees slaving to his female master in his office. Also, I got to die my most gruesome death to date – you'll have to wait to see the movie for that one.

5- You've also appeared in "Disturbing Behavior", Dark Angel (TV), X-Files and Millennium. Is it me or is the horror genre following you around? Is this coincidence or fate?

What can I say, I like it rough, too…

6- Apart from Millennium, you've also acted opposite Lance Henriksen in "The Invitation". What was your part on that film? What kind of release is it getting and how was it acting opposite Lance (he seems pretty intense)?

Lance is one of the finest actors I have ever worked with. He can be very intimidating, so you have to be able to challenge him. The Invitation is a psychological thriller, I play a sexually frigid married woman who is forced to take a type of drug that unleashes your deepest sub-conscious fears, and unless you face them you die. There is a climatic scene with Lance and I, that was one of the most difficult scenes I have ever had to do, but you'll have to wait for that one, too. It is going to the New York film festival this year.

7- What kind of parts bring you the most pleasure?

I actually love playing dark, disturbing characters, because I think in life we try so hard to be 'good, decent people' and to just allow myself the freedom to tear into myself, and tap into that darkness, allows me to free that part of myself.

8- What is it about acting that cranks your dial?

Making the impossible possible, studying every aspect of the human psyche, and just a chance to play and create every day.

9- What's next up for you?

Just finished A Wrinkle in Time – Walt Disney/Miramax, beginning two series this summer Smallville – David Nutter, Da Vinci's Inquest which is a multi-award winning Canadian drama.

10- If you're asked to be included in the cast of Hellraiser 7, would you do it?

Absolutely, I love Pinhead, I think Gwen and Pinhead should have a child.

11- When and how will "Hellraiser: Hellseeker" be released?

Not sure what kind of release, but it will be soon, I'm sure.

I'd like to thank Sarah for her time and the on-set pictures she slapped my way. Looking forward to seeing you in "Hellraiser: Hellseeker" baby girl! Whip it ! Whip it good!
