Is Stephen King's Misery headed to Broadway?

09.20.2012by: Eric Walkuski

The twisted tale of Paul Sheldon and his "Number One Fan" might be Broadway bound.

Variety reports that Warner Bros. Theater Ventures is launching a stage adaptation of Stephen King's MISERY. William Goldman, the screenwriter of the 1990 film version of King's novel, has written this iteration as well. Will Frears is directing.

Before you start booking a ticket to NYC, things aren't that clear cut yet. MISERY will receive just an 11-performance run at the Bucks County Playhouse, which resides in New Hope, Pennsylvania. And while this Bucks County joint is a small venue, it's not unusual for stage shows to test the waters before committing to a Broadway run. MISERY has been labeled a "limited developmental engagement," which might as well mean "we want to see if it works."

No cast has been announced yet, even though the show runs from November 24 - December 8.

Do yo need to know MISERY'S synopsis? You shouldn't but here it is anyway:

After an automobile accident, novelist Paul Sheldon meets his biggest fan. Annie Wilkes is his nurse - and captor. Now, she wants Paul to write his greatest work - just for her. She has a lot of ways to spur him on. One is a needle. Another is an ax. And if they don't work, she can get really nasty...

Extra Tidbit: Can you picture MISERY working as a stage play?
