It Follows David Robert Mitchell

Last month, we heard that Legendary Entertainment and The Picture Company are teaming up to produce a feature expansion of director Julian Terry's 8 minute "proof of concept" short THEY HEAR IT. Now it has been announced that IT FOLLOWS writer/director David Robert Mitchell has been hired to write the screenplay for the project.

Mitchell will be working with a story that has been compared to IT, A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, and THE BIRDS. It explores

an ominous presence that stalks the youthful inhabitants of a small community. There is a mysterious and terrifying noise called The Sound that attracts children when they hear it.

It's not clear what happens to the children after that, but it has been said that there are "terrible consequences" for anyone who hears The Sound.

This is the second writing gig Mitchell has taken on while waiting for the December release of his next directorial effort, UNDER THE SILVER LAKE. A couple months ago we shared the news that Mitchell is writing the alien invasion thriller MAN ALIVE for director Hiro Murai.

I liked IT FOLLOWS, so the fact that Mitchell is going to continue working in the horror and thriller genres is good news to me.
