Denis Villeneuve's hard-hitting revenge thriller PRISONERS is assembling quite a cast. Hugh Jackman joined the project a while back, and just a few weeks ago we heard that Oscar-winner Melissa Leo was on board. Now Jake Gyllenhaal is close to being taken prisoner by the flick.
To recap, PRISONERS concerns a small-town carpenter named Keller (Jackman) whose young daughter and best friend are kidnapped. After the cops fail to find them, Keller takes the law into his own hands, but in the process runs up against the big city detective assigned to the case.
Gyllenhaal is in talks to play the "big city detective" on Jackman's case. According to Variety, Gyllenhaal became interested in the project after Villeneuve mentioned it while the two were filming the indie thriller AN ENEMY. PRISONERS encountered a few road blocks, but now that it's back on track, Gyllenhaal has reinvested in the film.
Production on the Alcon Entertainment film is scheduled to begin in early 2013. We'll keep you posted.
