Jason Stutter's The Dead Room gets a full trailer

09.14.2015by: Cody Hamman

When we first reported on Jason Stutter's THE DEAD ROOM back in July, the only video available online was a teaser that ran a mere 15 seconds. That was enough to catch my attention and leave me wanting more, and now a trailer that runs almost seven times longer has arrived to give potential viewers a glimpse at the film's story.

Said to be inspired by real events, that story is:

When a terrified family flees a desolate southern New Zealand farmhouse, two cynical scientists and a young psychic are sent to investigate their claims of a haunting. There they encounter a powerful spirit that will protect the house's secrets at all cost.

The Dead Room is inspired by the chilling urban legend surrounding a farmhouse in Central Otago, New Zealand. In the early 1970s, two science tutors went to debunk claims a rural house was haunted and uncovered an incredibly disturbing mystery.

Judging by the trailer, this looks to be a solid and intense new entry in the haunted house sub-genre. Am I sensing a bit of subdued Sam Raimi influence in some of those shots?

Jed Brophy, Jeffrey Thomas, and Laura Petersen star in the film, which is being represented in North America by XYZ Films, with Raven Banner Entertainment handling international sales.

While we wait to hear word on worldwide distribution plans, THE DEAD ROOM is set to hit theatres in New Zealand on October 29th. There it will be the first film in New Zealand cinema to be released with the Rumble Acoustic Science and Infrasound experience, which uses low frequency waves to trigger feelings of heightened emotional tension and stress in audience members.
