Jennifer Lynch documentary Despite the Gods to screen at Hot Docs 2012

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

If there’s one positive thing that came out of the supposedly excruciating production on the movie HISSS, it’s DESPITE THE GODS – the feature length documentary on Jennifer Lynch’s tumultuous experience of filming the movie in India. If you’re looking forward to seeing it, you may want to hang around Toronto in a couple of days, where the movie will screen as part of the Hot Docs 2012 festival. Check out the dates below and – if you missed the trailer and poster – peep those out below as well.

Here are the dates and the venues:

Saturday, April 28 at 6:45PM, Cumberland 3
Monday, April 30 at 1:30PM, Cumberland 2
Saturday, May 5 at 9:30 PM, Innis Town Hall

Despite the Gods brings us behind the scenes on the set of Lynch’s Bollywood/Hollywood action film about a man-eating snake goddess. Out of her depth shooting on location with an Indian crew and two top Bollywood stars, Lynch turns her production into a vehicle for her own self-actualization, paying no regard to timeline, budget or reality. As the story in front of the camera derails, the story behind the camera explodes.

Here’s hoping for an imminent US release.
