Controversial Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier will soon begin production on a serial killer movie called THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT, an idea that was originally conceived as a TV mini-series but has since been whittled down into a feature. To mark the occasion, von Trier has shared an "evocative photo with a cinematic reference", an homage to the 1932 classic VAMPYR.

The director has also added a couple more actors to his film's cast. Joining Matt Dillon as the titular serial killer Jack and Bruno Ganz as the mysterious Verge, "who engages Jack in a recurring conversation about his actions and thoughts" (sounds like one an "imaginary friend" character to me), are Riley Keough and Sofie Grabol.

Keough and Grabol (pictured above) will be playing two of the women who cross paths with Jack, and I have to assume that it isn't very pleasant to cross paths with him.

THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT will be told

from Jack's point of view. He is a highly intelligent killer who has spent a decade perfecting the art of the perfect murder. But as the police begin to close in, he starts taking greater and greater risks in his attempt to create the ultimate artwork.

The story is set in the 1970s, so Jack won't have to be concerned about DNA evidence.

THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT will begin filming in Sweden in March, then the production will move to Copenhagen in May.
