Key & Peele’s Jordan Peele to direct Blumhouse horror-thriller Get Out

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Jordan Peele, one of the co-stars of the the comedy sketch show Key & Peele, will be helming a horror-thriller for Blumhouse called GET OUT, which is set to tackle racial issues in modern America. Now that Key & Peele has ended, it was only a matter of time before one of them took the reigns of a horror movie.

Don't believe me? Time and again, their show has displayed their love for horror flicks, both obvious and obscure. Just a couple weeks ago, we ran a story on their GREMLINS 2 parody, and they've also skewered THE EXORCIST during their five season run. And that's not even mentioning their Ray Parker, Jr. sketch, which has the GHOSTBUSTERS songster creating theme songs for deep cut genre films as LAWNMOWER MAN, DISTURBIA, and THE BURBS.

Says Jordan Peele:

People know me for my work in comedy, but now I’ll get to focus on my passion for writing and directing horror films. Like comedy, horror has an ability to provoke thought and further the conversation on real social issues in a very powerful way. GET OUT takes on the task of exploring race in America, something that hasn’t really been done within the genre since NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD 47 years ago. It’s long overdue.

It sounds like he's taking this flick pretty seriously, and it'll be fascinating to see how he can pull his comedy talents around to try and scare the wits out of audiences. Although if his film ends up being a little more like a comedy than he's letting on, I don't think I would mind considering the plot description:

GET OUT  follows a young African-American man who visits his Caucasian girlfriend’s family estate.
