Not every famed serial killer has had their story brought to the big screen, at least not yet. But one truly chilling killer's tale is finally making its way to the celluloid stage, that of Belle Gunness, America's most prolific female serial murderer. This chick was a Black Widow to the max - in fact, she makes Black Widows look like Gossip Girls.
Producer Ed Bass (BOBBY, WHILE SHE WAS OUT) is making his directorial debut with BELLE, from a script he wrote with Eve Mayer. In a fascinating twist, Mayer's family actually purchased the farmland where Gunness committed her murders, and there they discovered some of the love letters Belle used to lure potential suitors to her house, where she promptly married and killed them.
"It's classic theme: a woman looking for love and never quite finding it," Bass said. "And when she finally does find love, it eludes her."
Maybe because she was a deranged f*cking psychopath? I actually remember seeing the story of Belle Gunness on HBO's terrific "Autopsy" series, and it's a truly haunting story. If you want to read more about the evil lady - who killed several of her own children as well - check out her Wikipedia page. Compelling stuff.
