King’s It going theatrical?

Last Updated on July 26, 2021

I’m a fan of Stephen King’s IT. I think the novel is arguably King’s best. That opens up a huge argument, I know… and while 1408 is my favorite adaptation… I can’t help but shake the classic feeling of IT. The 1990 miniseries adaptation, directed by Tommy Lee Wallace, wasn’t bad at all either. I mean Tim Curry’s Pennywise has become a horror icon. So taking all that into account… what’s your opinion on the fact that IT is getting remade?

Now before we get into it… let me reiterate a little. It seems this project isn’t exactly a remake persay but another adaptation. While the ABC miniseries took place in 1958 and 1985 and is, in fact, a miniseries, this new adaptation will be an all out theatrical film and will take place in present day. You know what… I’m down.

Imagine if they score an awesome director and get some key names for the cast.. we may be in for something brilliantly twisted. Let me get into the details. Lin Pictures and Vertigo Entertainment are producing the film for Warner Brothers. Dave Kajganich has already been pegged to write the script, which will follow a group of kids called the Losers Club that encounter a creature called It, which preys on children and whose favorite form is that of a sadistic clown called Pennywise. When the creature resurfaces, the kids are called upon to regroup again, this time as adults, even though they have no memory of the first battle.

So that’s the brass tacks. That’s all we’ve got so far. So what do you think? Yay? Nay? I’m not exactly sure why but I’m excited about this news. Now I’m just waiting on a director announcement and I’ll decide whether I’m stoked or not. We’ll be watching for any other IT news so keep it here for updates!
