Kirsten Dunst scores big at Cannes, wins Best Actress for Melancholia!

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

Well folks it’s the beginning of the week and news is rolling pretty damn slow on these here interwebs so I figured I’d take this opportunity to give you all an update on what happened at this year’s Cannes festival. More specifcially I figured I’d tell you all who took home the goods!

Now while our beloved genre didn’t make any solid splashes or anything one flick that did get a lot of talk at Cannes was Lars Von Trier’s MELANCHOLIA. Sure it was interesting to hear that Von Trier was banned from the fest for his Nazi-comments but that’s not what I’m here to talk to you all about. Oh no, I want to talk about MELANCHOLIA star Kirsten Dunst! You see Ms. Dunst came straight out of left field and stole the Best Actress nod from WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN’S Tilda Swinton. This is huge news for the young actress, who has hardly been working the past few years thanks to depression. I say good for her! Wonder if she’ll make an Oscar nod…

Justine and Michael are celebrating their marriage at a sumptuous party in the home of her sister and brother-in-law. Meanwhile, the planet, Melancholia, is heading towards Earth… MELANCHOLIA is a psychological disaster movie from director Lars von Trier.

Along with Dunst MELANCHOLIA also stars Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, John Hurt, Charlotte Rampling, Stellan Skarsgård, Alexander Skarsgård, Brady Corbet, Jesper Christensen and Udo Kier. This shite is set to hit on November 11th so I hope you’re ready for it. Now I’m going to go ahead and leave you all with a list of all the winners at this year’s Cannes.
