Kristina Klebe Friday the 13th premiere

Although this is information that actress Kristina Klebe divulged in an interview back in January, somehow it escaped my attention until last night – the genre regular who had a breakthrough role in Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN has crossed over into the world of another slasher franchise to voice one of the camp counselors Jason Voorhees will be hunting down in Friday the 13th: The Game.

Given the fact that Klebe has previously faced down Michael Myers, her Friday the 13th: The Game character has a fitting name – she is Jenny Myers, a "final girl" / girl next door type of "protector" character.

Klebe told Rue Morgue that she landed the voice acting gig after talking to someone prominently involved with the game at a convention:

I was talking to Kane Hodder at a convention, and he told me they were doing the game, and I was like, ‘Could I audition for it?’ He told me, ‘Yeah, talk to the guys in charge, send them your tape.’ I audition for a lot of voiceovers, but I almost never get them, because it’s a very small community; the same people tend to get cast over and over, because they can obviously do many different voices. But I sent them my demo, and then I made an audition tape; I was in my closet, screaming my head off — and it was after a convention, so I was already losing my voice! But I got it, and I had a really good time in the studio. I think it's going to be a great game, from the prototypes I’ve seen."

Klebe also discussed what it was like recording her lines:

The great thing was that the director was there in the studio, telling me, "OK, now do it as if Jason is right in front of you and he's about to kill you, and this is the end of your life," or, "Now do it as if you're not so scared, and you're more antagonistic." So you do it in different ways, and depending on that, your voice and your pitch change — from more frightened and breathy to stronger and more confrontational. I also did lots of dying, and I think I screamed more in that game than I have in any movie."

In the game with Klebe are Kane Hodder, who did the motion capture performance for Jason Voorhees (a role he has played four times before); Thom Mathews, reprising the role of Tommy Jarvis from JASON LIVES: FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VI; and Jen Burton, who voiced Jason's mother Pamela Voorhees for "The Pamela Tapes", audio recordings that players will be able to collect during a match and listen to later in the menu system. Those audio clips were written by JASON LIVES writer/director Tom McLoughlin.

Friday the 13th: The Game was made with the cooperation of Sean S. Cunningham, director of the original FRIDAY THE 13TH. Series composer Harry Manfredini provided the score. Special effects legend Tom Savini designed some of the kills, as well as an all-new look for Jason.

The game is scheduled to be released on May 26th. To pre-order a copy, head over to F13Game.com.
