Kurt Russell to battle cannibals in the horror-western Bone Tomahawk

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

It has been announced ASYLUM BLACKOUT co-writer S. Craig Zahler will be writing and directing BONE TOMAHAWK, a horror western being produced by Caliber Media Co.

The film, set to star Kurt Russell (!), Peter Sarsgaard, Richard Jenkins and Jennifer Carpenter (pictured below), tells the story of a sheriff (Russell), a gunslinger, a befuddled oldster (Jenkins) and a cowboy (Sarsgaard) as they attempt to rescue a group of captives (including Carpenter) from a band of cannibalistic troglodytes.

So, it’s basically the coolest premise for a movie ever concocted. BONE TOMAHAWK should start shooting in New Mexico this spring. If so, the film will mark Russell’s return to the genre for the first time in five years (the last time being Quentin Tarantino’s DEATH PROOF). The only thing that would make this news more exciting would be John Carpenter booted Zahler out of the director’s chair. That probably won’t happen, though I’m sure the thought will haunt Zahler all his days. Anyway, Happy Halloween, everyone– Kurt Russell is back.
