Can’t say this is the most obvious choice for the Scream Factory treatment, but who am I to argue with the best genre distributor in the business? The company has announced that Steve Miner’s LAKE PLACID will be receiving their special brand of love this summer.

It’s early yet, so Scream hasn’t announced any special features or revealed the key art, although they did say the original poster (seen on the right) will be on the reverse side of the cover, as is standard procedure.

The 1999 film, written by David E. Kelly, didn’t make much of an impact when it was released (it took in $56 million at the worldwide box office), but proved to be something of a cult classic – perhaps thanks to the foul-mouthed Betty White character who fed the villainous croc. It was followed by three direct-to-video sequels, so obviously people have some reverence for the title.

We’ll toss more info your way when it comes in. In the meantime, here’s the plot (if you didn’t know it already):

An investigative team, armed with state-of-the-art equipment, high powered weaponry and a biting sense of sarcasm, must work together to defeat Black Lake’s most ferocious resident: a 30-foot prehistoric crocodile!
