After nearly ten years in development hell, during which time the project passed from studio to studio and gained and lost actors (Keanu Reeves and Reese Witherspoon were once attached to star), PROMETHEUS scribe Jon Spaihts’ spec script PASSENGERS finally made it into production at Sony, with Morten Tyldum at the helm and Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt in the lead roles.

The story:

On a routine journey through space to a new home, two passengers, sleeping in suspended animation, are awakened 90 years too early when their ship malfunctions. As Jim and Aurora face living the rest of their lives on board, with every luxury they could ever ask for, they begin to fall for each other, unable to deny their intense attraction… until they discover the ship is in grave danger. With the lives of 5000 sleeping passengers at stake, only Jim and Aurora can save them all.

With the film set to reach theatres on December 21, 2016, Sony has released a trailer that makes the film look like an exciting sci-fi adventure romance, although I also get the feeling that this trailer contains spoilers we probably shouldn’t be seeing at this point. I’m interested in checking out the full film, and now I wish I hadn’t seen some of the shots in this trailer before watching it.
