Looks like Leo DiCaprio is keeping his dark character streak alive!
According to Deadline, DiCaprio and his Appian Way production eave have joined forces with Double Features to acquire film rights to THE DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY: MURDER, MAGIC AND MADNESS AT THE FAIR THAT CHANGED AMERICA...a 2003 novel by Erik Larson. Word is Leo will play the most infamous serial killer in Chicago's history, one possibly akin to Hannibal Lector.
From a Wikipedia plot-crunch:
Bringing Chicago circa 1893 to vivid life, THE DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY intertwines the true tale of two men - Daniel H. Burnham, the brilliant architect behind the legendary 1893 World's Fair, striving to secure America's place in the world; and Dr. H.H. Holmes (DiCaprio), the cunning serial killer who used the fair to lure his victims to their death in his elaborately constructed "Murder Castle."
Okay, so what do we think of this one? It seems Leo has gone out of his way since the days of TITANIC to shed the teenie-heart-throb image...a move I think we can all appreciate. Dude seems to work only with the best filmmakers around these days...my guess is he keeps that trend intact as well once hiring a writer and director.
