One year ago, we heard that Michal Chaves was attached to make his feature directorial debut on an untitled Platinum Dunes project that was described as a "supernatural horror-thriller that takes place on a global scale". Unfortunately, that project hasn't made it into production yet, but Chaves has something else set up at another horror-centric production company, and it looks like this one is moving forward more quickly.

Chaves is signed on to direct the generically titled THE CHILDREN for New Line Cinema and producer James Wan's company Atomic Monster. Written by Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis, THE CHILDREN tells the story of

a social worker who, while investigating the mysterious disappearance of two children, discovers her own family might also be in jeopardy.

Linda Cardellini has been cast as the social worker, and one assumes that she'll be dealing with something much scarier here than she faced as Velma in the live action SCOOBY DOO movies.

Wan is producing THE CHILDREN alongside Gary Dauberman and Emile Gladstone. Michael Clear serves as executive producer.
