Lussier to direct H3?

Last Updated on July 26, 2021

In the same Variety article where we learned that the Wenisteins are working on a new CHILDREN OF THE CORN film comes the news that Patrick Lussier (MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D) is in negotiations to write and direct Dimension’s HALLOWEEN 3D.

Lussier (pictured) has been in business with Weinstein brothers before, having directed DRACULA 2000 for them, as well as having edited such Dimension films as SCREAM, HALLOWEEN H20, and MIMIC. He currently has DRIVE ANGRY in development, with Nicolas Cage set to star.

Lussier seems an easy, safe choice to helm the 3D sequel; I’m guessing that, if he does indeed end up directing it, Zombie’s grungy aesthetic will be abandoned in favor of something a little more routine… Hard to say if that’s a good thing or not: I’m not a fan of Zombie’s HALLOWEEN vision (although I will admit part 2 is much better than the first), yet I don’t want another flavorless HALLOWEEN sequel. With Lussier at the helm, I have to believe HALLOWEEN 3 will resemble H20 more than one of Zombie’s films.

To be continued…
