Masters of the Universe reboot hits in 2019!

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Nice! While I am admittedly not the biggest fan of the cartoon series, or whatever other medium MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE stems from, I was a big fan of the 80s Dolph Lundgren version costarring Courteney Cox (see below).

I re-watched the film a few years back now and, oh, boy does that sh*t not hold up to "The Test of Time." It still has a place in my childhood heart, but other than Frank Langella's chilling crazy portrayal of Skeletor, I cannot think of a reason (other than Courteney Cox) to revisit the flick again. Maybe to show my kids one day. Maybe.

Anyhow, I always wanted a MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE sequel, and as I got older, I wanted a MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE reboot, or reimagining, or whatever the hell you want to call it. There is mucho kick ass potential in the franchise and, while it could be risky, a new take on He-Man and his pals could potentially rival Marvel's THOR (I love the first one) for mythical action-hero badass-ness.

Today we can report that the live-action MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE reboot has officially been given a release date of December 18, 2019. In equally awesome news, EW is reporting that director McG has officially left the project. There is currently no reason that McG left the film, but who the hell is complaining? Sony is currently searching for a replacement director and it's said, already have a script by David S. Goyer (DARK CITY)

MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE is set for December 18, 2019.
